Myanmar’s main agriculture export commodities are beans and pulses which have higher market prices internationally and it's easily cultivable. During 2000-2001, pulses were cultivated using high pride and high yielding priority, which are compatible to present market demand, and utilizing bio-fertilizers as well as conducting research into cultivation methods. |

The crops are raised during cool season rather than raining season. Moreover, 2.5 million acres were cultivated during raining season and 4.69 million acres were raised in cool season yielding 2.3 million metric tons of crops. About 1.4 million tons of surplus crops were produced out of the total. Due to increasing market demand, cultivation of beans and pulses have been extensively carried out beans and pulses such as green gram beans, soya beans, grams and black eye beans totaling 7.5 million acres will be raised with an estimated yield of 2.5 million metric tons. In Sagaing, Mandalay and Magway Divisions, over 2.8 million acres are being planted with a crops and the yield is estimated at 850,000 tons. |
