(Booth on Chin National Race)
An exhibition with the aim of enhancing better understanding of the socio-economic life of Wa, Kokant, Salon, Naga, Chin, Akhar, Kayan, Mro, Maramagyi, and PaO nationals was held at Diamond Jubilee hall of Yangon University with the aim of enhancing better understanding on 30th August to 2nd of September 2002.
At the exhibition, you can study photographs, books, cultural artifacts, utensils, dresses, and a video show on socio-economic life of ten national races which have been researched from 1996 to 2002 by Anthropology Department.
About Chin National by Daw Lwin Lwin Mon ( Assistant Lecture, Anthropology Department, Yangon University)
Here we display the photos and materials of northern Chin ethnic groups which we collected during our research in November 2001.
They live in big villages with their own chicks and elders. Every tribe or sub-tribes were slight different patterns of dress but as a whole it depicts the same pattern of dress. All their dresses are very colourful and picturing. The traditional festivals though labels in different names are more or less the same. Most of the Chin nationals are educated. Their major economy is agriculture, hunting and breeding. Now, they have hospitals, clinics, dispensary in their towns and villages.
About Chin-Mo National by Daw Sandar Win ( Assistant Lecture, Anthropology Department, Yangon University)
Here we display the photos and armaments of Chin-Mo nationals which we collected during our researched in November 2001.
The majority of Mo nationals are Buddhist. Furthermore, they also practice Animism by tradition and words passed down from one generation to the next. The Sharman is the medium who establishes conduct between the Nats and the Mo Nationals. Tattooing was the common practice by the Mo among the ladies in olden days. Each village followed a district tattooing pattern for easy identification. The barking deer was threaded in beat forms as used as the ceremonial ornaments by the ladies at least over 300 were used to make a necklace for a lady. The livelihood of Chin Moe National is sewage cultivation. The main crops are rice, malt, oats, beans and maze. They prepare Khaung Yae from the rice malt.
