Exhibition on Socio- Economic Life of Myanmar Nationalities
(Booth on PaO National Race)

An exhibition with the aim of enhancing better understanding of the socio-economic life of Wa, Kokant, Salon, Naga, Chin, Akhar, Kayan, Mro, Maramagyi, and Pao nationals was held at Diamond Jubilee hall of Yangon University with the aim of enhancing better understanding on 30th August to 2nd of September 2002.

At the exhibition, you can study photographs, books, cultural artifacts, utensils, dresses, and a video show on socio-economic life of ten national races which have been researched from 1996 to 2002 by Anthropology Department.

Here, we display the photo, musical instrument and utensils in the Thahton-PaO ethnic group which we collected during our research in November 2001.

The home land of the PaO population is the Tha Hton Township, Pha Ann, Taunggyi District and Pinlaung Township in the southern Shan State and Zayatkyi village in Taungoo Township.

Tha Hton Township is situated in the south of Yangon from about 148 miles. The economy of PaO is based upon the agriculture. The main products are rubber, durian, mangosteen, paddy and green vegetables.

Most of the PaO nationals are Buddhism. The structure of monastery and pagoda can be seen in every village. They make pagoda festivals annually but Wax day varying according to localities.The PaO National Day is held in the full moon day of Tabaung yearly.
