Shan State

The Union of Myanmar is the largest Peninsular country in the region of South East Asia. It’s total area is 261, 228 square miles. The population at present is approximately 47 million. There are 135 ethic nationalities living in Myanmar but the majorities are Bamars, Shans, Kayins, Kachins, Chins, Mons, Kayahs and Rakhines.

Shan State is located to the east of the Union and is well known as Shan plateau high table land. The total area is 60,155 square miles.Taunggyi is its capital and situated at 5,000 feet above sea level. Being a hill station, Taunggyi is a pleasant Summer resort accessible by car, rail and plane from more part of the country.It is a thriving commercial town.

Among the famous religious monuments and pagodas in Shan State, Innlay Paungdaw Oo Pagoda, Pindaya Shwe U Min are prominent. Innlay lake and Innthas living on the lake, their culture, custom and tradition are all fascinating interest, to visitors at home and abroad.Shans, another union nationalities have 33 ethics branches. When icey cold mist began to descend from the shan ranges, Hey man (or) winter set him. You can see different Shan nationalities holding the traditional festivals and celebrating special occassions. Shans, Paos, Palaungs, Was, Lahus and Akhars celebrate the new year festivals- merrily participate in new year festival is performed on first waxing moon of the month Natdaw, December. It is a traditional dance.

Besides, there are Pao traditional dance called Phonekway Dance, Inntha dance called Meeshukhan, Taungyo dance called Longlit , Danu dance called Tartetpwe, Lahu dance called Karheit Hpwe, Kokant traditional dance of tea-placking dance, Wa traditional dance of Kawchit, Palaung dance called Cheery Burdin Harbinger New Year.
