The Union of Myanmar is the largest Peninsular country in the region of South East Asia. It’s total area is 261, 228 square miles. The population at present is approximately 47 million. There are 135 ethic nationalities living in Myanmar but the majorities are Bamars, Shans, Kayins, Kachins, Chins, Mons, Kayahs and Rakhines.

Shan State is located to the east of the Union and is well known as Shan plateau high table land. The total area is 60,155 square miles.Taunggyi is its capital and situated at 5,000 feet above sea level. Being a hill station, Taunggyi is a pleasant Summer resort accessible by car, rail and plane from more part of the country.It is a thriving commercial town.

Among the famous religious monuments and pagodas in Shan State, Innlay Paungdaw Oo Pagoda, Pindaya Shwe U Min are prominent. Innlay lake and Innthas living on the lake, their culture, custom and tradition are all fascinating interest, to visitors at home and abroad.Shans, another union nationalities have 33 ethics branches.
