Shwe Nan Daw Cultural Museum

Myanmar nationals have established the nation unitedly through successive eras. The founder of the Konbaung Dynasty U Aung Zeya, in the name of A_laung Phaya who was physically and morally fit founded the Third Myanmar Empire in AD 1752, making the city of Shwebo its capital.
The Konbaung Dynasty lasted 133 years since AD 1752. There were altogether 11 successive kings. Shifting the former palace from Amarapura, King Mindon who was the 10th king of the Konbaung Dynasty founded the new city of Yatanabon at the foot of the Mandalay Hill in AD 1856. He magnificently established the golden city of Yadanabon with various Myanma architectures. After the death of King Mindon, his son Thibaw ascended the throne in AD 1878. The Third Myanmar Empire was occupied by the British in 1885. The Konbaung period and its dynasty disappeared since then.

The royal palace and buildings with tiered roofs were not damaged then. But they were destroyed during the Second World War. Now the replica of the royal palace and the Shwe Nan Daw cultural museum have been rebuilt and restored. These can be seen as part of the post Konbaung period of the people of Myanmar.
The Kanaung Crown Prince was the brother of King Mindon who was the founder of the city of Mandalay, more popularly known as Yadanabon. He was competent and tried to develop the country, establishing more than 40 factories throughout the country. He sent Myanmar youths abroad to study modern techniques. Kinwun Mingyi U Kaung served the country during the reigns of King Mindon and Thibaw. He was very clever and brilliant in diplomatic field and established diplomatic relations with European countries.
U Pho Hlaing was a scholar who tried to develop Myanmar politics, administrative theories and ideas.

These robes are the robes of the Crown Prince and the Minister, which could be worn only with the permission of the king. The ornaments were different according to rank. The most important and prominent one in the robe is the sash, which is made up of gold.

. The Crown Prince’s robe contains twenty-one stands of gold chain and the Minister’s robe contains fifteen stands of gold chain.
This is the robe of the General of the Konbaung period. These are palanquins which carried the Ministers. This fancy bullock cart was used by U Dwe, who was the Mayor of the city of Kani. The coach was used by the kings of Konbaung Dynasty.
The glass couch was used by king Thibaw who ascended the throne in 1878. It was bought from France and cost 14,000 silver coins. These are original hand writings of King Thibaw and Queen Suphayalat. These are recited religious texts made with brass and ivory, which documented the Buddha’s paritta.
The art and culture of the people of Myanmar had flourished mostly in the post Konbaung period. These cultures still flourish today. The Shwe Nan Daw Cultural Museum is a cultural heritage for the people of Myanmar. The culture and the traditional arts of Myanmar can be observed in this museum in one visit.
