South Yamar Dam locates on South Yamar Creek, Myaing Township in Magway Division. The dam was inaugurated 23rd January 2000. It is an uphill dam of 90 feet high and 5,670 feet long. It can capacitate 7,040 acres feet of water. The dam can irrigate 7,000 acres of farmland. South Yamar dam is 104th dam be opened in the country and 18 dam in Magway Division. Head of State Senior General Than Shwe gave guidance for greening the dry zone in the upper Myanmar. The guidance was implemented in 1993 through 13 Districts greening project. At present day, the group of dams and reservoirs have been constructed in upper Myanmar. Hence, the environment is greening and farms have been changed into the cultivated lands. |
