Shwedagon Pagoda is one of the wonders of the World. The majestic pagoda is gilded with fine gold which resembles the golden mountain. It is decorated with various forms of Myanmar handicrafts. Shwedagon Pagoda, the centre of Myanmar civilization where local people as well as tourists visit and pay homage to the pagoda. |

In the precinct of Shwedagon Pagoda, there are many cultural heritages. The historical King Thayawaddy’s Bell is at the north-east of Sunday corner. The bell is donated by King Thayawaddy so the bell called his name same. Its honorary title is Maha Theiktha Takhanna. It was coiled with over 50 workers in AD 1841 and its weight is about 42 tons. The aim wishes sharing good merits for the donation and the lives of Buddha are inscribed on the bell. |

There are Manotethiha fabulous creature with the man's head and lion, it came to the hook of the bell. Manotethiha is the Pali word which means human lion. Besides, these are Dragons on hook. Imaginary animals with prominent parts of the elephant, bullock, horse and carp are sculptured upon the supporting pillars at each side of the bell. The wonders and beauties of Myanmar fine arts are depicted on the pillars. |

The historical King Thayawaddy’s bell is donated on 19th February 1842. Its heights is 7 feet, thickness is one foot and weight is 6 feet and 8 inches. At the bell’s hall, there are glass mosaic and lacquer at the ceiling. The bell has existed for about 160 years. Myanmar fine arts at the bell and its hall displayed the standard of Myanmar civilization. We, Myanmars live in our own high civilization. The bell is the monument of Myanmar handicrafts which also show Myanmar people’s generosity. |
