Let us preserve the watershed Areas

Agriculture is the life-blood of Myanmar folk people. As water, soil, tree and wood are natural resources which provide the agriculture works, local people pay attention to preserve them for welfare of their offspring. Among those natural resources, watershed areas of agricultural facilities are worth to preserve. That’s why Forest Department of the Ministry of Forestry is taking systematic measures for preservation of watershed areas under the Watershed Management Plan.

Through this programme; we bring you the watershed management in the environs of Inlay Lake in Shan State, Eastern Myanmar. In implementing the plan, there are 12 main tasks; establishing of forest plantation in watershed areas as natural resources conservation, protection and conservation of natural forest, natural regeneration, introduction of terrace cultivation into old shifting cultivation, forming of Agro-forestry and contour bund planting, founding of community forest by cooperation of local people, preservation of trees and forest in water resources and spring, controlling gully for earth erosion as natural resources conservation task, organizing the income generation to increase the income of local residents, production of stoves and breeding of chicken and pig.

For development of social infrastructures in rural areas, digging of water facilities, building of schools and dispensaries and training to staffs and local populace on human resource development tasks. Because of these endeavours, watershed areas and socio-economic lives of local people come to develop. Watershed areas can generate hydro-electric power which is very crucial for the State.

In fact, watershed management in Myanmar is an essential endeavours of the State for the wellbeing of its people.
